Days 49 & 50: Cocoa Beach & Tomorrowland

March 15th & 16th

Day 49: Lisa & Laurel in Cocoa Beach

I originally thought I was going to have Sunday off alone, but on Saturday night when I was sitting up alone way too late at night because I could, Lisa came home and asked if I wanted to go to the beach the next day because she was free too! We got a pretty slow start, not leaving until around 1:30 on Sunday. Originally we wanted to go to the Gulf side but it was a little further, so to get there faster we decided to go to Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic side. There were an offensive number of tolls and parking was a disaster, but the nice thing about traveling with Lisa is that neither of us ever get upset, we just keep wandering and trying to figure out whatever problem we've come across. We ended up parking at the town library and walking to the 4th Street beach after getting a body board at a gas station. The beach was so beautiful and it wasn't too crowded where we were.

We spent some time just laying in the sand (which was so ridiculously sticky that when you tried to brush it off it just stuck to your hand, and if you tried to rub it off your hands it would just move around your hands). But it was soft and warm and lovely. Lisa had a little portable speaker, so we lounged and listened to music before venturing into the waves.

Lisa actually plunged into the water with the board while I splashed in the shallow end, collecting shells in the waves.

We packed up and left a little before sunset and made our way home. We rinsed off and changed before going to see Cinderella! We decided to go in the dine-in theater in Downtown Disney. It was a nice experience and the food was delicious, but my martini got spilled and then I got charged for two and with all the times the waiters had to go to and fro, I ended up missing key parts of the movie. It was so cinematographically beautiful though that I will gladly go see it again.

Day 50: Tomorrowland

Originally Morgan, Nicole, Kaitlyn and I had planned to go to the beach on Monday day as well, but because of all the tolls and our innate desire to sleep in, we went to Magic Kingdom instead. We met up with Nicole's work friend Sara and the place was packed, so we did our default long-line ride, Carousel of Progress. The carousel is one of my favorite rides, as strange as that may seem, and there is never a line. After that we decided to go on Astro Orbiter, which is the ride that spins over Tomorrowland and looks more like decoration than a ride. At this point we were feeling pretty comfortable in Tomorrowland, so we went to the Laugh Floor and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger. After that we got a little snack, watched the Move it, Shake it parade, visited Lisa at work on Main Street, and then we were pretty much done with the park for the day.

After Magic Kingdom we went to BJ's for dinner and pizzookies, which Nicole claimed were basically the best dessert on earth. In keeping with my tradition of having every single thing I order get messed up, I got a California [veggie] burger because one of the four ingredients was avocado, and it promptly showed up with bun, patty, cheese, and peppers. There was also some kind of oil all over the floor right under my feet, and when we were seated and I said there was something on the floor, the hostess told me it was part of the table, then looked at me like I was crazy when I said it was slippery. I've had the worst luck with restaurants lately and I look forward to that ending.
The pizzookie was indeed very good though so that was a nice grand finale! I got peanut butter, which had actual peanuts in it. I would've probably preferred it without them, or if they were just chopped, but it was still a delicious ending to my days off.
