As much as I would love to break these days down into detailed accounts of what happened each day, I just can't. Because my days off were at the beginning of one week, on Sunday and Monday, they ended up being really late the next week, on Thursday and Friday. Thus, I worked nine days in a row and it all just became one big blur. I would go to work at night, come home late, sleep most of the day, lounge around for an hour or two, and then go to work. If I worked a morning, I would wake up early and work, then come home and nap until all my roommates came back. That's all I really did. But still, here is a breakdown, to the best of my ability. This one is for Susan.
Day 30: Convention Center. At this time there were two very large groups using the convention center, and they both greatly enjoyed drinking and smoking. Or at least it seemed that way because I was working in the evening. Also, they served popcorn to one of the groups. Turns out popcorn is a nightmare to sweep up. Who would've guessed? Also a nightmare to sweep? Confetti covering one very large ballroom. It took twelve of us over an hour to clean it up, and if they hadn't brought in the billygoat (fun fact: this is the name for a giant industrial vacuum) we would've been even longer.
Day 31: Convention Center. Same hours, same two groups minus popcorn, however the same group shot off confetti again. This one was a mix of confetti and streamers, so it would have been a bit easier to clean up except instead of twelve people doing it, there were about five of us.
Day 32: REALLY SLOW CONVENTION DAY 1
Day 33: REALLY SLOW CONVENTION DAY 2
Day 34: REALLY SLOW CONVENTION DAY 3
Day 35: Backstage! This was my first time working backstage and I was a bit nervous about missing something, but it was a Sunday so most of the backstage offices had been empty all day anyway. Bonus! They didn't have a male to do the men's backstage areas so they put another woman on men's backstage and she just did everything with me and helped me remember what to do when working backstage.
Day 36: Probably Convention. I worked a turn-around this day, meaning that I worked a night and then came in this day in the morning. Our shifts are always 7am-3:30pm or 3:30pm-Midnight, unless we work a turn-around, because we have to have at least 8 hours between shifts. On Day 35 I arrived an hour earlier and left an hour earlier, and this day, the 36th, I arrived an hour later and left an hour later. I don't mind being an hour off because my coordinator usually tells me to grab a picker and pick trash from flower beds for that awkward hour, which really helps break up the day.
Also, on this evening when I got home, a few of my roommates decided we should go to P.F. Chang's! I got a Long Island Iced Tea which was delicious, and then I had quite an endeavor with my food. I was split between two entrees, but one said it had mushrooms, and not wanting to request them off I just ordered the other, which just contained "veggies." Now, in my experience, when restaurants serve a vegetarian entree, they automatically assume vegetarian must mean "lover of mushrooms," because I get mushrooms in ALL KINDS of veggie entrees. Fun fact, mushrooms are fungi, not vegetables, and they belong no where in my food. WELL LO AND BEHOLD, my food arrives covered in mushrooms. Our waiter (who in actuality was an excellent waiter) could tell from my look of disgust that I was displeased, which he should have because he knew I didn't order the other entree because of the mushrooms. So he let me pick through the plate I had while he put in an order for a new one! I ended up getting an entree and a half and I didn't have to eat a single mushroom. Oh, and we also ordered The Great Wall of Chocolate. The only evidence I have is this empty plate.
Day 37: Pools. This was my first day on pools, and I actually quite loved it. If it's sunny it'll be hot and sweaty and all the garbages will be overflowing, but the people are so friendly and the work keeps me busy. Plus I got to work with Gordon! Gordon is part-time, so I hadn't yet had the chance to meet him. He was just the sweetest, most relaxed but hard-working guy. He retired from GM after 32 years before coming to work at Disney, which he did because he wanted to "give back" after all the wonderful family vacations for him and his wife and four children. Also exciting, he used to live in Washington! In 1977 when he was much younger he lived at Fort Lewis back when it was just Fort Lewis (as opposed to Joint Base Lewis McChord.) I really just loved working with him and chatting, and the day wasn't too difficult until the end when Gordon got sick and had to leave and I had to pull all the dirty towels from the pool deck. That was stressful.
Day 38: Pools. This day I was back on pools with Gordon, and everything went quite well. I got to leave a little before 1pm though because this was the day of my water art class! Water art is a really cool thing you can find certain custodial cast members doing in the parks or at the resorts, and someday I might just do a whole post about it! I took the class with a few other CPs (College Program) Daisy and Angel, and we've already been having so much fun putting these new skills to work!
My roommates insisted we all go out the evening of the 4th to celebrate my birthday, but I'll just get to those shenanigans later.
